Structure of Zeolites

The regular structural frameworks of zeolites are made up of three primary components, namely oxygen, silicon, and aluminium. The micropores present in their chemical structures are known to contain water and certain ions. The chemical structures of zeolites feature a tetrahedral coordination between the aluminium atoms and the silicon atoms ...

Synthesis of Zeolite A: A Review

Zeolites have been well studied in terms of the relations among structure, properties and synthesis. Nowadays 180 synthetic zeolites are known. Some of the earlier synthetic zeolites include zeolites A, X, Y, L, ZSM5 and omega. The Atlas of Zeolite Structure Types [4], published and frequently updated by the IZA Structure Commission, assigns a

Synthesis of MTWtype Zeolites in the Absence of Organic ...

The synthesis of MTWtype aluminosilie zeolites in the absence of organic structuredirecting agents (OSDAs) was successfully attained by the addition of calcined ZSM12 seeds to (Li, Na)aluminosilie gels. In this system, Li ion plays a crucial role in the growth of the MTW crystals.

Zeolites

Zeolites can adsorb organic and mineral molecules in the gas phase without any modifiion of their structure. This adsorption is due to their high specific surface (40 to 800 m2/g) to some hydrophobichydrophilic surface effects and to their structure. Zeolites are used in the industrial gases treatment as well as in case of odour nuisance.

Zeolitesappliions

They can remove volatile organic chemicals from air streams, separate isomers and mixtures of gases. A widely used property of zeolites is that of gas separation. The porous structure of zeolites can be used to "sieve" molecules having certain dimensions and allow them to enter the pores.

Zeolites

However, zeolites tend to have different chemical elements in their composition. The formula for zeolite is given in the ratio where, M = any one metal that could be magnesium, sodium, potassium, lithium, or calcium. n = valence of the metal ion. y = number of water molecules in the structure of the zeolite. y/x = Atomic Si/Al ratio.

Structure

Structure Like most silies the zeolites are based on TO 4 tetrahedra, where T is an aluminium or silicon atom (phosphorus in aluminophosphates). The vast 3dimensional networks are a result of all four corners for the tetrahedra being shared, producing low density microporous materials.
